MORE MUSCLE - BETTER SEX

How exercise can improve fun in the bedroom

BY MYATT MURPHY, CSCS

More muscle for better sexMastering any and every sexual position requires a certain amount of muscular strength, but, more importantly, it takes a lot of muscular stamina. “Exercising frequently can help you build a certain degree of full-body endurance that can make it easier to hold any sexual position for a much longer period of time,” says Sharon Moalem, PhD, an award-winning neurogeneticist and author of How Sex Works (DK Publishing, 2009). For you, that means having the ability to switch positions when it's no longer interesting instead of when it's too uncomfortable or impossible to maintain.

BEST APPROACH: GO THE DISTANCE.
“Add a few stamina exercises to your workout that challenge the muscles that are most relied on during sex: your core muscles, shoulders, chest, glutes and legs,” says Jeff Bell, CSCS, NASM, ACSM, a celebrity trainer and owner of Bell Fitness Company in New York.

Planks for better sex

BEST RESULTS: THE PLANK.
Get in a push-up position with your legs extended behind you and your feet shoulder width apart. Rest yourself on your forearms so that your arms are at a 90-degree angle. Keeping your head and back straight, hold this position for as long as possible.
